This is my collection of sites that I use often or feel visitors to my site will enjoy. If you are interested in what is on my site then chances are you'll find some of these sites useful as well. I'd bet only a handfull of people actually visit this page, however. After all, who in the world cares about the favorite links of someone else? In case you are one of the rare people who does here you go. Knock yourself out!
INTERNAL:
Reptile Garden Arcade Interface This is the previous website interface. I called it Arcade because it reminded me of an arcade game. The only images shown here are for the interface, though, because you can access the content images from the current website interface. The links to files don't work for this reason, either. You can still see how the interface worked, however, and browse to all the different pages that existed at that time. I actually had three different interfaces before Arcade, but I was stupid and deleted them after creating Arcade on 25 Nov 2000.
Nature Calendar If you follow this link it will open up a new window with a calendar for the current month (great for printing). The calendar features a random picture of mine and is an idea I've had for some time but never sat down to implement it until now (2002). All source is in the .HTM file so you can see how the Javascript works to create the calendar.
For Sale Check out my extra computer hardware, software, and photography gear for sale.
Air Force Enlisted Performance Report Idea This is my suggestion for improving the Air Force's enlisted personnel rating system.
COMPUTER:
http://www.google.com I used to swear by Altavista, but Google is my new search engine of choice. The hits it produces contain more useful information relative to my searches than those that Altavista and other engines I've tried provide.
http://www.hotmail.com You should already know about this site. If you want free e-mail or need a second, personal account away from work (as I did), go here to get it. Hey, it's such a good system that Microsoft bought it and, amazingly enough, it's still free!
http://primeshop.com/html/jumpidx.htm Want to learn HTML? Go to the same place I did in 1998. These pages will teach you all the basics along with etiquette and guidelines on how to write clean HTML. They need to update their tutorial to follow HTML 4 specifications but, hey, this is a paint shop! Some tags, such as <FONT>, <B>, and <U> are no longer supported.
http://www.w3.org After you've learned HTML from the above page, you can forget most of it! Seriously though, Primeshop will teach you HTML 3, whereas the W3C home page has the current standards for HTML. After learning etiquette from Primeshop, don't waste your money on a book. Instead, learn the current HTML standard here (including Style Sheets).
http://www.cssplay.co.uk Stuart Nicholls amazing Cascading Style Sheets page. He's done some stuff I could have sworn could only be accomplished via JavaScript. Go here to be amazed and learn from his gracious sharing of discoveries & techniques.
http://www.bruceclay.com/web_rank.htm Want more hits on your page? Check out these great tips on how to get them! As this page states, however, please actually develop some content on your pages before advertising them and wasting peoples' time.
http://www.visi.com/~drozone Get ready to see some incredible Javascript coding and graphics combined into an effective and visually stunning interface. Doc Ozone's site makes me envious, but at the same time inspires me to master Javascript, HTML, and Paint Shop Pro (he prefers Photoshop, and really has no choice since he uses Macs).
http://www.tomshardware.com This is where I go for information on the latest PC hardware and developments.
http://www.pricewatch.com Go here to search for the best Internet deals on computer hardware & software.
PHOTO:
http://www.bhphoto.com Need to mail order photography equipment? This is the place. They don't always have the best price, but they have yet to screw me on an order, don't use bait-and-switch, and are widely known as the best, most honest mail-order house for photography. They also have an incredible assortment of equipment and supplies. If it's not in their catalog or on their web pages, they probably still have it or can get it for you.
http://www.dpreview.com Want to read a quality review on a digital camera? This is the best site I've found that has very detailed reviews of digital cameras. Now if only they'd include information on minimum aperture with which autofocus is still available with digital SLR bodies (not always f/5.6)...
http://www.photo.net Philip Greenspun's HUGE web site full of photography related stuff. His stories are interesting and funny although they sometimes give the impression that he's a bit arrogant and sexist. Still, he's very knowledgeable, has taken some great photos, and has put together the best photography related site I've seen! Check this site out!
http://www.natur-bild.de Martin Hanke's photo site (in German). I started going on photo trips with Martin in 2002 in Germany and France. From what I've seen he has a great eye for composition and knows the geography, flora, and fauna of the Midwestern region of Germany like the back of his hand. I think he'd make a great leader for photo tours of Germany because of this and his exceptional English (consider it Martin).
http://www.iconusa.com This is the place I go for all my archival slide, negative, and photograph storage supplies.
http://www.geocities.com/cokinfiltersystem/ This site has a lot of great information on my preferred filters; the Cokin line.
http://www.precisioncameraworks.com If you have an Arca-Swiss B1 (or any other Arca-Swiss equipment) and need any work done on it, this is the place to go. Mine started acting up a year after I bought it so I sent it in to them to look at and repair. They were fantastic! Bob Watkins kept me updated via e-mail on the status of this key piece of my equipment, had it fixed in just a few days, and sent it back to me only a week after I had sent it in for repair. As if that wasn't amazing enough, he didn't charge me anything! And that was even though I had tried to fix the problem myself by putting graphite powder into the ball (don't do this).
http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/index.html The Canon Camera museum has information on the many different Canon lines of photography equipment.
MISCELLANEOUS:
http://finance.yahoo.com Yahoo! finance is my favorite site for obtaining current financial and company information.
http://www.bbb.org/complaints If you have a problem with a US company, try here. You can even file a complaint with them (the Better Business Bureau) online in many geographical areas. This organization is to me a rare, shining example of the US Government doing something great.
http://www.ebay.com The biggest auction site available. If you want to find something for a decent price and have time to spare while you wait for a deal then go here. EBay is also good for finding rare items that you want but someone else doesn't.
http://www.theonion.com If you haven't heard of this news site you are deprived! Looking for a good laugh? Check here at the ONION!
